On 21 March 2022, the ASSURED project drew to a close with its final conference ‘Electric Fleets for Green Cities’. Gathering project partners, the European Commission and other transport sector stakeholders, the event highlighted how ASSURED boosted the electrification of public transport in cities by investigating interoperability and standardisation of electric vehicles and chargers.
Taking place at Autoworld Brussels, the ASSURED Final Event was held in hybrid format: alongside partners and speakers onsite, an audience could follow the conference online. A Plenary Session was held in the morning followed by three parallel sessions in the afternoon, each discussing a different topic related to electric fleet upscale.
Keynote speeches were held by Mr Patrick Mercier-Handisyde (DG Research & Innovation, EC), Prof. Joeri van Mierlo (Director MOBI-VUB and ASSURED Project Coordinator) and Mr Umberto Guida (Senior Director K&I at UITP). They highlighted the importance of initiatives such as ASSURED to meet climate goals and why we need research and innovation as well as sector-wide collaboration to achieve real change.
After, the consortium took to the stage to present results focused on ‘Innovative energy storage systems and smart charging strategies’ and ‘Ensuring standardisation and interoperability of charging solutions’. The second session presenting project results was all about the ASSURED demos, and how they have enabled real fleet upscale throughout five cities across Europe.
The Plenary Session concluded with a round-table of end-users. Operators TMB, Stadtwerke Osnabrück and EMT Madrid, and PTA Vervoerregio Amsterdam joined the European Commission and VUB to exhange on ASSURED outcomes and looking ahead to the challenges still to overcome.
Finally, the afternoon saw three parallel session focused on the following themes:
• Standardisation & interoperability of e-vehicle charging
• Looking into full electrification: shared charging infrastructure for urban fleets
• Design optimization tool & simulation platform to ensure modularity and fleet upscale
You can find all presentations of the Plenary Session here.
The ASSURED Team would like to thank all speakers, participants and (online) audience for their contributions and engagement!
